Hello, I'm Cedar Dobson.

Hailing from California with a deep passion for traditional Irish music, Cedar Dobson is one of the most innovative and expressive tin whistle players of her generation. Cedar’s high-energy, percussive, and emotional style of playing is unmistakably recognisable and has captivated listeners worldwide. As described by Will Pound, a highly acclaimed harmonica and melodeon player, Cedar is “one of the best whistle players in the world” and by John Doyle, one of the world’s most celebrated Irish guitarists, “Cedar is a force to be reckoned with”. Currently based in Ireland, Cedar holds an Honours Bachelor's Degree in Music Production from Pulse College based in the iconic Windmill Lane Recording Studios. Cedar has released five albums, each one pushing musical boundaries. Caoimhín O’Se from RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta says that Cedar’s debut whistle album Decade (2025) is “where tradition, innovation and creativity come together to deliver a stand out and satisfying listening experience”. Decade has received national airplay on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, Raidió na Life, and international radio airplay in the United States, the US, and New Zealand. Decade has been featured in the August and September editions (2025) of the Irish Music Magazine. Cedar has composed music for short films and videos such as the TG4 Autumn Showreel video entitled Seoladh Sceideal an Fhómhair 2023. Cedar’s compositions have appeared in an immersive audio-visual project Shoreline Serenity, which was installed in Windmill Lane Recording Studios for ‘Winter in Dublin 2023’. Cedar’s compositions have been well-received, celebrated on social media, and have touched the hearts of clients worldwide. Her compositions will be featured on the highly-anticipated upcoming album (currently in production). Cedar has performed in the United States, Ireland, the UK, and Brazil as a solo act and with bands such as ‘Tradify’ and ‘Stepwise’, and has opened for the renowned band, Altan. Cedar has performed many times at the Fleadh Cheoil and festivals throughout Ireland. Cedar has been included on 30+ session recording projects, including short films, songs and albums, podcasts, advertisements, and more. Cedar has recorded in Stiúideo Cuan, Windmill Lane Recording Studios, and Hellfire Studios. Cedar has established an influential presence on social media, with one video on Instagram exceeding 1 million views and a video on TikTok exceeding 300,000 views. Cedar is a trailblazer when it comes to new sounds, as she plays Traditional Irish music on impressive 3D-printed woodwind instruments. These instruments make an appearance in Cedar’s most recent album ‘From Kolkata to Dublin’, a Traditional Irish-Indian fusion album. Cedar is a forerunner when it comes to unique sounds as she plays Irish Traditional music on the Chinese Hulusi, ocarina, Native American flute, and other exotic instruments. Along with teaching online and in-person tin whistle lessons, Cedar will be a core instructor at the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat in Texas this coming October alongside prominent Traditional Irish musicians such as Sorcha Costello, Seán Gavin, and Alan Murray.
