From time-to-time we offer small group workshops taught by a Kayley teacher or a guest teacher. We also occasionally organize group practice sessions, where you can volunteer to lead a set, build confidence, and connect with fellow fiddle players from around the world.

Niall Mulligan demonstrates what gives Irish fiddling its drive and lift, and how that departs from a classical approach. He'll discuss rhythmic patterns of common dance tunes, bowing, how ornaments drive the music, and how to make tunes more dancer friendly.

Regional Styles
Irish fiddling isn't just one style. Sligo fiddling is fast and ornamented, Donegal style is bold with double stops and cross bowing, and Clare is more relaxed and lyrical.
The Bow is the Heartbeat
In Irish fiddling, bowing patterns create swing and lift. Unlike classical "long bows", fiddlers often use shorter, punchy strokes to match the dance feel.
Ornaments are not decorations - they're rhythm!
Rolls, cuts, and trebles don't just fancy up a tune. They add percussive drive and help dancers keep time.
Why so many Reels & Jigs?
Reels (in 4/4) and jigs (in 6/8) were built for dancing. Jigs are bouncy with a "jiggity-jiggity" feel, while reels drive forward with relentless energy.
